2006 Spring 7 Lindamood Phoneme Sequence Program (LIPS) Harvest Request to purchase The Lindamood Phoneme* Sequencing Program (LiPS) to assist both special education and general students with in reading, spelling, and speech.  The program helps students focus on how the lips, tongue, and mouth produce the sounds that they hear.  Budget includes $298 for LiPS and $159 for the LiPS Magnetic Kit.

2006 Fall 2 Buddies Teaching Reading Comprehension Heritage Project to have Heritage School students "buddy" with Woodland Meadows students to teach reading skills using picture books.  Every 2-3 weeks, Heritage students will travel to Woodland Meadows to work with their assigned buddy.  Prior to each meeting, Heritage students will learn, practice, and prepare to teach a reading skill.  Picture books required by the project are needed throughout the year so it will be difficult to rely on the Heritage media center.  Budget is for 65 picture books.            975 Accepted            500
2006 Fall 3 Classroom Speed Stacking - The Need for Speed Heritage Project to enhance the physical fitness of students through an indoor classroom activity called speed stacking.  Speed stacking is an individual and team sport where participants stack and unstack 12 specially designed cups in pre-determined sequences.  The project was begun last year with the help of a Foundation grant that funded 30 speed stacking sets.  This request supports classroom-, school-, and district-wide tournaments.  Budget is $700 for 30 timer mats and $89 for a tournament display.            789 Accepted            450

2006 Fall 5 Recycling Facility Field Trip Heritage Project to take 5th graders on a tour of Clean Tech, the world's fifth largest plastics recycler located in Dundee, Michigan.  Students will tour the facility to learn how recycled plastics are sorted and processed for reuse.  The tour will take place in November and will last about one-half day.  Budget is for bus transportation.            250 Accepted            250

2006 Fall 7 Beyond the Hype: Deconstructing Toxic Messages of Masculinity and Femininity in the Media Middle School Presentation by Jean Kilbourne, national speaker on gender and media issues, will present an interactive lecture that empowers students, teachers, and community leaders to actively critique and understand powerful advertising and influential portrayals of young men and women on popular sitcoms.  The presentation will take place in Spring 2007 and will welcome secondary students, educators, community leaders, and university students.  Budget is for speaker honorarium.         1,500 Rejected               -  
2006 Fall 8 We're All Eyes Pleasant Ridge Project to dissect sheep eyes enabling second-grade students to see the inner workings of the eye.  University of Michigan staff will come to assist the students.  They will supply rubber gloves, dissecting tools, and antiseptic rinse for the eyes.  Prior to the dissections, students will learn parts of the eye, how the eye works, and study a model of the eye.  Budget is for sheep eyes.            150 Accepted            150

2004 Spring 1 Advanced Education and Real World Experience High School Request to contribute toward the purchase of industrial arts equipment including a CNC mill and CNC lathe.  CNC is an abbreviation for computer numerical control.  The equipment will enable students to experience the entire process of part manufacturing including manual programming of CNC machining and turning centers, writing and editing of programs, setup and operation of CNC machine tools, and inspection of finished products.  Total cost of the equipment is $43,000, $21,500 for the mill and $21,500 for the lathe.  $33,000 will come from the school district bond and the remaining $10,000 is requested to come from the Foundation.      10,000 Accepted      10,000
